ABOUT US


The Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery, which is located in the Brookfield Health Sciences Complex University College Cork, Ireland was established in 1994 by Professor Geraldine McCarthy. The School celebrated the 25th anniversary of its establishment in 2019.

Since its establishment, the school has graduated over 5,000 nurses and midwives. Over 2,000 nurses and midwives have undertaken postgraduate programmes and CPD within the school and over 50 doctoral students have also graduated from the school. The school has a strong track recording in research, helping to generate new knowledge and informing national health and social care policy and practice


The School of Nursing and Midwifery has attained a Global Top 100 place in the QS World University Subject Rankings for Nursing for five consecutive years. This year the School of Nursing and Midwifery celebrated it’s ranking as the Top School in the Country and 51st-75th in the world by academic subject ranking for Nursing as a subject area according to the 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.

This year the School of Nursing and Midwifery is proud to hold an Athena SWAN Bronze Award – Advancing gender equality: representation, progression and success for all”. This is the first Athena SWAN in Ireland in the disciplines of Nursing and Midwifery.
