Celebrating 50 years of ISDC: 1971 - 2021
The 2021 Annual Scientific Meeting of the Irish Society for Dentistry for Children will celebrate the establishment of our Society in Cork fifty years ago. We will host an online event, which will encompass an interesting educational programme, as well as an opportunity to reflect on our past, present and future. We look forward to seeing you all in May.
In recognition of the significance of this milestone year for the ISDC, we are pleased to offer reduced registration fees for the online event. We hope that this facilitates as much participation as possible in this celebration.

Dr Isabel Olegário
Dr. Isabel Olegário is an Assistant Professor in Paediatric Dentistry in the Dublin Dental University Hospital (Trinity College Dublin). She is originally from Brazil, where she graduated as a dentist, and was certified as a Paediatric Dentist, at the University of São Paulo (FOUSP). During her master’s degree, PhD and post-doctoral fellowship, she investigated different approaches for the management of dental caries in primary molars.
Dr. Martin Foster
After qualifying from Edinburgh, Martin’s career included general practice, hospital and public service posts, a master’s degree, registration as a Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry, qualifications in Health Service Management, and studying law in the Faculty of Advocates. He was previously involved in developing clinical guidance with the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) and the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP), and was Head of NHS Lothian Children’s Dental Service prior to becoming a Dento-legal Consultant in 2011. Martin is currently Dental Protection’s Head of Dental Services for Ireland.
Professor Denis O'Mullane
Professor Denis O'Mullane graduated from University College Cork in 1960. During the course of his illustrious career, he has worked in general dental practice in London and in the Public Dental Service in West Cork, as well as occupying various senior academic and leadership roles in the Department of Preventive and Paediatric Dentistry in the Cork University Dental School and Hospital and the Oral Health Services Research Centre from 1982 - 2002. Professor O'Mullane was a founding member of the ISDC in 1971, which was also the year of completion of his PhD in the field of dental trauma epidemiology. He was appointed Chief Dental Officer in the Department of Health in 1978 and he is currently engaged in ongoing work with the Department in his role as Chair of the National Oral Health Policy Academic Reference Group.
Dr. Louise Gibson
Dr Louise Gibson graduated from University College Cork (UCC) in 1993, and subsequently took up several training posts in Dublin and Australia prior to completing her CCST in 2003. She then completed an MSc in Community Child Health at Warwick University while working in a research post at Enable Ireland, Cork. She has worked as a Consultant Community Paediatrician at the Mercy Hospital in Cork since 2006 and completed her Medical Doctorate in UCC in 2010. She commenced in the role of Senior Lecturer/Consultant Community Paediatrician at Cork University Hospital in May 2010.
