“Enduring the Social Pathologies of (Late) Modernity: from Diagnosis towards Metanoia” conference

December 2nd & 3rd 2025

The “Enduring the Social Pathologies of (Late) Modernity: from Diagnosis towards Metanoia” conference, will be held in University College Cork, main campus.

December 2nd from 8.00am to 7.00pm and December 3rd from 9.00am to 6.00pm.

'It's not dark yet, but it's getting there', as Bob Dylan says. In the midst of a cascading poly-crisis of climate breakdown, democratic reversals and authoritarianism, extreme economic and social inequalities, epidemics of depression and anxiety, mimetic contagions of envy, hatred and scapegoating, pervasive materialism, meaninglessness and nihilism… It has become very difficult to see the light! We are in need of a metanoia - turning towards the light, and for this we will need not only critical diagnoses of the epidemic social pathologies of contemporary civilization. For a collective inter-disciplinary socio-psychotherapeutics we will need a logos - a horizon of ideals, we will need an imaginative-critical pedagogy, and we will need good models to emulate. The 10th anniversary conference of the Social Pathologies of Contemporary Civilization research network invites contributions that speak to these themes.
